A late, snowy, nighttime visit to the Capitol...

The other night I was out with a good friend in Lansing. We had a great evening, some food, some drinks, some more friends, the works. I went home, got in bed, and turned out the lights. But...I started think about something she'd said to me earlier in the night. Now, Lansing is our hometown, and we both love it dearly, although she feels slightly stronger about this than I do. Anyway, she inspired me to try an take beautiful pictures of the Lansing that we know and love, the side we will always cherish even when others don't see it. I got up in the middle of the night, and drove to the Capitol, and began. This is the first in a series of Lansing pictures I am planning..... I had to start with something monumental, and there's nothing better. But I will be searching for the more obscure and thus more beloved hometown subjects.

The Bridge Moss

On a particularly cloudy day, cool still, but much warmer than it has been lately, i stumbled upon this old wooden two-track bridge.  On any other day, any other time, I probably wouldn't have even given it more than a glance, but on this day....some combination of the clouds, and breeze, and damp melting snow, and my wandering imagination running wild...

Fertile lichens reaching up...growing...ready for spring!

The mosses are lush and stretching upward, too!

Lights

This entry is about lights.  It's not supposed to be deep and meaningful, or any new take on light in photos, or astound you in any way.  I simply find that pictures of lights are beautiful.

Sometimes

Sometimes I can't help but staring at the simplest things....  Now, I know we're all sick of winter.  We love Michigan, and we love all four seasons, but winter does feel a little long this year.  Still, I can't help but pointing out how inspiring winter can be, too.

Love, Treehgger

I just loved the perspective of this twig....just persisting and budding and reaching, no matter the cold...

And Bittersweet is absolutely one of my favorite things.  Just look at those luscious colors peeking out from ice and snow!

Trees.  You already know how I feel about trees....

Red rose hips in winter just radiate of life and passion, made all the more powerful by the struggle through the season...

And I howl at the full moon....how could I resist?

Cold Urban Night

The other night I drove around looking for peace on a cold urban night. I found it, in the most unlikely place.....the intersection of Main and 14 Mile.

Love, Treehgger

First there were just awnings...I loved them for some reason...

And then there was this bench where you can sit right on top of the snow!

A beautiful clock. In Clawson. Who knew?

Snow mountains, noir.

The city has decorated for Valentine's Day, but late at night I found that the cut-out red hearts don't look quite so flaky....in fact they reminded me of just raw emotion.... I love this picture, with the red lights in the background, it's dark and tormented, but still love exists. Just like reality.
